An Orgy Of Film Noir, Lucha Libre & Sci-Fi – Check Out The MFKZ Trailer

by Tito W. James

Angelino is just one of thousands of deadbeats living in Dark Meat City. But an otherwise unremarkable scooter accident caused by a beautiful, mysterious stranger is about to transform his life… into a waking nightmare! He starts seeing monstrous forms prowling around all over the city… Is Angelino losing his mind, or could an alien invasion really be happening this quietly…?

MFKZ is an adaption of the French comic, Mutafukaz by Guillaume “Run” Renard. The comic is said to have been inspired the author’s own experience with alien encounters and government cover-ups.
The film is a Japanese/French co-production produced by Studio 4°C (Mind Game) and Ankama (Dofus). Both studios have an impressive track record of pushing boundaries of what’s possible in animation.
Gkids, the film’s distributor, described MFKZ as a story that “mixes anime, film noir, lucha libre, and gang culture in an orgy of first-person shooter mayhem.” And set in “a burnt-out, gang and cockroach-ridden neo-urban hell that makes Blade Runner’s LA seem like The Brady Bunch.”
Gkids is known for distributing superb animated features for mature audiences; Bird Boy, The Breadwinner, Miss Hokusai, and most recently The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl, being prime examples. But to my knowledge, this is the first R-rated film GKids has distributed.
I would encourage you to snag your tickets now because MFKZ is only in U.S. theaters on the 11th and 16th of October.
