Carlos Ezquerra & John Wagner’s American Civil War Epic El Mestizo Reprinted

Carlos Ezquerra will forever be remembered as the co-creator of Judge Dredd, along with John Wagner, but one of his personal favourites was El Mestizo, one of the first characters if colour in a UK comic, and also co-created by Wagner. And, in memory of Carlos, who passed away recently, 2000AD and the Treasury of British Comics are reprinting the whole dawg-gawn saga. All 16 episodes.
First appearing in UK weekly, Battle #118 (1977), “El Mestizo was once a slave who managed to escape to Mexico. Now he’s come back over the border – a mercenary for hire!”

It is 1862 – a time of great turmoil as the American Civil War tears a nation in two, where dangerous men prosper through bloodshed. But does El Mestizo really work for either side, or is he playing them both?
