LightBox Expo Announces First Wave Of Guests
by James Ferguson
Character designer and illustrator Bobby Chiu and Emerald City Comic Con founder Jim Demonakos are launching LightBox Expo next year. It will be a three day celebration of the visual arts in Pasadena, California, designed as a multi-faceted experience for everyone from aspiring artists and students to professionals and fans with a focus on animation, illustration, and concept art.
Although the event won’t be held until September 6-8 of 2019, there are a number of guests already lined up including Daniel Arriaga, Loish, Iain McCaig, Crash McCreery, Mike Mignola, Ryan Meinerding, Karla Ortiz, Victoria Ying, and Claire Wendling. Tickets go on sale early next spring for the event which will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center.
Bobby Chiu says:
LightBox Expo was conceived as a way to unite the best artists in the animation, illustration, live action and gaming industries under one roof for the ultimate celebration of art. This event is a place where we can come together once a year to hang out, share our work with the public, meet other artists, further our skills and educate those coming up in our respective industries.
LBX is working to ensure that the artists in attendance, regardless of their standing in the industry, will be respected and treated fairly. An advisory council has been created to meet this goal including Stephen Silver, Justin Goby Fields, Helen Mingjue Chen, Ryan Lang, Renee di Cherri, Douglas Little, Christophe Lautrette, and the aforementioned McCreery, McCaig, Ortiz, and Loish.
Jim Demonakos adds:
We’re really proud of the Advisory Council and its impact on the event. Their direction is helping us put together an experience like no other, including a professional development day on Friday, plus countless hours of programming to help artists no matter what stage they’re at in their career.
