A Cross-Country Speedster: ‘Fast Enough’ Arrives During Black History Month

by James Ferguson

Creator Joel Christian Gill’s next book with Lion Forge Comics has been announced in the form of Fast Enough: Bessie Stringfield’s First Ride. The children’s picture book will debut in February 2019, coinciding with Black History Month. The book follow young Bessie Stringfield, a true adventurer and one of the first African-American women to travel alone across the United State on a motorcycle.

Joel Christian Gill says:

Fast Enough is for anyone who has ever been told that they are not enough. You are enough just as you are and Bessie’s story proves that.

Fast Enough mixes an imagined story of Bessie Stringfield as a young girl with historical facts about the real Bessie.
Lion Forge Editor-in-Chief Andrea Colvin added:

I’ve been following Joel’s career with great interest since he published this first Strange Fruit volume with Fulcrum. His #28daysarenotenough campaign is just the kind of movement Lion Forge is happy to support. Fast Enough, which introduces a black female motorcyclist—and the concept of forming your own ideas of what you can or can’t do–to children is the first of what we hope are many Joel Christian Gill books to come from Lion Forge.

Lion Forge has a growing emphasis on kids comics and books. It’s interesting to see the publisher diversifying a bit into the children’s book market. It all works together to get kids reading so it’s definitely a plus.
