Buffy & Firefly Highlight Boom! Studios’ FCBD 2019 Offering
by James Ferguson
Free Comic Book Day is still five months away, but the comics have just been revealed. Boom! Studios is bringing two of its biggest new releases to the party with a Welcome to the Whedonverse FCBD Special, featuring two all-new stories from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. This is planned as a great jumping-on point for new readers.

The Firefly side has a story from writer Greg Pak where the strong bond between Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his first mate, Zoe Alleyne Washburne is put to the test when the secret to their friendship is revealed. They’re called to answer by the people who love them and they’re left to pick up the pieces.
Meanwhile, in the Buffyverse, we’ve got a new tale from writer Jordie Bellaire and artist David Lopez. There’s something evil lurking under Sunnydale High School. Of course, you know that already. It’s a gateway to a hell dimension that’s been foretold to destroy the world as we know it. No biggie. Buffy and her friends have got it mostly under control…just so long as everything stays exactly as it is. That means no new plot points, no new characters, and definitely no twists, turns, or misunderstood prophecies. That should be easy, right?
Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, Boom! Studios says:
We’re committed to making 2019 the biggest year ever for fans of Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic books – and that means giving them the most anticipated release of Free Comic Book Day. We’re laying the seeds for some huge stories in each of these series, along with a massive surprise that no Joss Whedon fan can miss!
Welcome to the Whedonverse FCBD Special will feature a cover by Greg Smallwood. I am continually impressed by the promotional force Boom! Studios has put behind both Buffy and Firefly. It’s clear these are two titles that are a major focus for them and it’s fantastic for fans of the Whedonverse.
Look for this and a slew of other titles on Free Comic Book Day at your local comic shop on May 4th, 2019.
