Doom Patrol To Launch On DC Universe In February

DC Comics’s strangest heroes will have a television show all their own as DC Universe announced this morning that Doom Patrol will debut February 15th on the platform.

The new series stars Matt Bomer as Larry Trainor/Negative Man, Brendan Fraser as Cliff Steele/Robotman, April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, Joivan Wade as Victor Stone/Cyborg and Timothy Dalton as Dr. Niles Caulder/The Chief. Everyone accept Dalton and Wade made their debut on the first season of Titans in an episode called “Doom Patrol.” But you can take a look at the characters in these spiffy new character images:

According to the earliest plot synopsis, Cyborg will present the team with a mission they will not be able to refuse. Presumably, it will also reveal while The Chief was played by a different actor in the Titans episode.

The show is based on a concept devised by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani. Debuting in My Greatest Adventure #80, the Doom Patrol was a band of outsiders brought together by The Chief to act as heroes in a world which feared them. The concept is quite similar to the X-Men — the two debuted within months of each other — and led to Drake joking that Stan Lee stole the concept. Of course, there’s room enough in the television universe for both concepts and their beloved characters.

Doom Patrol debuts February 15th on DC Universe.
