Despite not quite being three years old yet, earlier this year it was announced the Weekly Shonen Jump series Kimetsu no Yaiba would be getting an anime adaptation. Now finally, during the midst of Jump Festa, we have our first trailer for the series, giving us a look at the world and the character. One of the more popular Shonen Jump series in Japan, Viz Media describes the series as follows:
In Taisho-era Japan, Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted boy who makes a living selling charcoal. But his peaceful life is shattered when a demon slaughters his entire family. His little sister Nezuko is the only survivor, but she has been transformed into a demon herself! Tanjiro sets out on a dangerous journey to find a way to return his sister to normal and destroy the demon who ruined his life.
The series will be animated by ufotable, with Haruo Sotozaki (Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Zestiria the X) working as the director of the dark fantasy series, and Hikaru Kondo (Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works) will be producing. There’s no episode count confirmed for the show currently, meaning the series could either become another long-running weekly series, or treated more like My Hero Academia, where the series is released in “seasons” to avoid catching up to the manga.
Kimetsu no Yaiba is coming this April, during the Spring anime season.
