Wednesday Lays Out The Stakes In American Gods Season 2 Trailer

by Erik Amaya

American Gods emerges from its creative hell this spring. And to mark its return, Starz has released a trailer in which Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) lays out the stakes of the coming war between the gods of the old world and the new gods of fame, media, and technology. It will not be an easy fight and Wednesday expects the improbably named Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) to help him gather the immigrant gods for a tussle of Ragnarok proportions. Also, there are hunky leprechauns, giants and Shadow’s wife Laura (Emily Browning) to consider.

To be honest, the slow place and rich production design of the show’s early episodes made it quite difficult to keep with the series. In fact, I dropped it roughly around the same point I stop reading Neil Gaiman’s original novel every time I try to read it. This sort of story, at least at the pitch level, should be catnip for me, but it has left me cold across two mediums.
Perhaps a change in executive producers will make it more interesting. As we’ve reported previously, there have been a number of creative differences behind the scenes leading to the departure of initial showruners Brian Fuller and Michael Green and then the removal of their replacement, Jesse Alexander, after his script for the Season 2 finale proved unsuitable. Nonetheless, it is possible the series has found its footing and we’ll give it another go when American Gods returns March 10th on Starz.
