Michael Avon Oeming Tackles ‘Dick Tracy Forever’ This April

by James Ferguson

Sometimes a creator lines up so perfectly with a character that it’s a wonder we haven’t seen this combination before. Such is the case with writer / artist Michael Avon Oeming and Dick Tracy. IDW Publishing has announced Dick Tracy Forever, a new four-issue mini-series from Oeming debuting in April.

The comic follows Tracy in his never ending quest for law and justice. Every time he stops one crime, another pops up in his ever growing list of unpredictable and absurd villains. He’ll never give up, no matter the era or incarnation, even when his new case defies all notions of time and space.
Oeming says:

I’ve gotten to write and draw most of my bucket list characters, from The Spirit to Batman and more, but I never dreamed that Dick Tracy would even be a possibility. It feels completely natural and I cannot wait to show why he’s such a relevant character for all times.

Joining Oeming on Dick Tracy Forever is colorist Taki Soma. Oeming will provide the main cover and a noir-inspired spot color variant for the first issue. Kyle Baker will contribute a special incentive cover too.
Denton Tipton, Group Editor at IDW adds:

Michael Avon Oeming’s award-winning work in crime comics makes him the perfect creator to tackle one of the greatest crime-busters of all time. I promise you’ll never see Dick Tracy the same after reading this series… and I mean that in a good way, wisenheimer!

Look for the first issue of Dick Tracy Forever at your local comic shop in April.
