The Monsters Are Everywhere In Godzilla: King Of The Monsters TV Ad

by Erik Amaya

Every so often, a film’s television ad comes along and gives us such a different appreciation for an upcoming release that we just have to talk about it. Such is the case with this ad for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Between the gorgeous shots of monsters like Mothra and King Ghidorah, the fabulous use of “Over The Rainbow,” and all the characters admitting the world belongs to Godzilla, we can’t help but be charmed.

The lighter touch, while still featuring plenty of kaiju action, is the sort of thing we want to see in theaters more often. If the actual film replicates this tone, eschewing the ponderous levels of seriousness seen in the 2014 Godzilla, we’ll be quite happy.
Of course, your mileage may very. You may like the grimmer tone of the original 1954 film and the 2014 release. That’s equally valid — particularly in the case of the original film. But growing up on a steady diet of Godzilla’s brightly lit and somewhat cheesy title bouts against smoke monsters, Ghidorah, and others, we’ll be quite pleased if the final film has a sense of humor amid all the destruction.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters crushes movies theaters on May 31st.
