Atlus Announces ‘Persona 5: The Royal’
by Sage Ashford
Developer Atlus has released a trailer for Persona 5: The Royal, an enhanced version of their original Persona 5 title. First teased back in December, Atlus has been gradually teasing out information about the title, leading up to the April 24th “Persona Super Live Concert”, which revealed this trailer.
Though it’s still early, we know Persona 5: The Royal introduces a new playable character, Kasumi Yoshizawa, a first-year high schooler that relocated to the city at the same time as the protagonist, and joins the Phantom Thieves for her own motives. The game will add a third semester, and there’s a new support character in Takuto Maruki, a school counselor that recently began working in Shujin. It’s also confirmed we’ll see a new location in Kichijoji, an area which offers a mix of cultures and attracts men and women of all ages. The game will also have a new opening and ending by Lyn Inaizumi (responsible for the original opening “Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There”) as well as a new battle theme by the game’s sound director Shoji Meguro.
They’ve made tweaks to the UI, and added other content such as new events with supporting characters Caroline and Justine, new enemy types, new treasures in the palaces, and more. The game will also have improved graphics, and support for Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro model.
Persona 5: The Royal is scheduled to release October 31st in Japan, but Atlus has already confirmed the game will see a worldwide release next year in 2020.
