Avengers, Spider-Man & Venom Roll Out For Free Comic Book Day
by James Ferguson
Free Comic Book Day is this Saturday, May 4th and I am already planning out my trip to my local shop. There are a number of great-looking titles available. Two that are definitely on my FCBD pull list are Avengers and Spider-Man from Marvel Comics. The publisher is using these books to introduce some new ideas that will spin out into both titles later this year.
In FCBD Avengers #1, Jason Aaron and Stefano Caselli showcase an all-new story for the main Avengers series, while we get a peek at Savage Avengers from Gerry Duggan and Mike Deodato, featuring one of the deadliest versions of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes ever.
In FCBD Spider-Man #1, creators Tom Taylor, Saladin Ahmed, and Cory Smith spin a tale with the heroes of the Spider-Verse, taking them in a “shocking new direction.” While I’m always interested in what’s coming for the Spider Family, I’m most looking forward to the second half of this book, from Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman as they remind us that “everyone is a target” in their prelude to Absolute Carnage, the next big event to shake up the Marvel Universe.
Both titles will be available this Saturday, May 4th at participating comic shops. Select retailers will also receive free Avengers promo buttons featuring the cover art to FCBD Avengers #1 by Ed McGuinness.
As always, please bear in mind that although these books are free to you, they are not free to the comic shop, so please consider picking up some other comics, toys, or collectibles while you’re there.
