Cobra Kai Gets A Third-Season; First Two Season To Become Free-With Ads In The Fall
by Erik Amaya
The All-Valley dojo partisans rejoice! Cobra Kai will return for season 3.
On Thursday, YouTube announced plans to continue the series along with a spate of other programs including new seasons of Impulse and Liza on Demand and the return of the unscripted series Kevin Hart: What The Fit.
But Cobra Kai is near and dear to our hearts with its magical reframing of Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny’s (William Zabka) rivalry as a battle for the soul of the San Fernando Valley. And with their kids and Johnny’s protege Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) involved in the battle, things could get out of control. Well, even more so then they currently are.
If you haven’t had the chance to watch the series because it sits behind the platform’s paywall, YouTube announced the series will become ad-supported. On August 29th, the first season will available for free (with ads) for two weeks. On September 11th, YouTube will make the second season of Cobra Kai available on a weekly basis within the ad-supported environment.
It suggests the streamer believes in the show and wants as many eyeballs to see it as possible. It also means they’re looking at different ways to keep it alive. Honestly, we can’t blame them. The thing just works and represents the ideal form of scripted content YouTube was chasing all along with its premium initiatives.
Meanwhile, those of us already caught up can look forward to more Cobra Kai next year.
