Alfred Prepares To Be His Own Man In Pennyworth Trailer

by Erik Amaya

While the concept behind Epix’s Pennyworth — an examination of Alfred Pennyworth’s (Jack Bannon) younger days before becoming the Wayne butler — may seem absurd, it could lead to some fun television. At least, that’s what we glean from this trailer, which reveals a swinging London and an Alfred who abhors violence, but it quite capable of dishing it out when push comes to shove. And it seems he will have to get jolly violent if he hopes to save his girlfriend Esme (Emma Corrin) from the clutches of Bet Sykes (Paloma Faith). Perhaps Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) can help him out on that front, even if he is just a body Alfred can exchange for Esme.

We’ve seen a couple of episode and we were definitely entertained. It has some of the Gotham madness with a nice addition of a Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels vibe. And as the trailer suggests, it is surprisingly violent. But it definitely sets it apart from the other DC Entertainment series out there. It’s certainly worth a look.
Pennyworth arrives on Epix July 28th.
