Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd Is Ready To Believe In The New Ghostbusters

Ant-Man‘s Paul Rudd is heading to another beloved film series: Ghostbusters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rudd is talks to star in the upcoming Ghostbusters continuation. Directed by Jason Reitman — son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman — the film will take place firmly in the same universe as the original series, but feature a new generation of Ghostbusters as psychokinetic energy once again plagues the world. Rudd will play a “teacher in a small town” who gets caught up in the group’s latest antics. Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace are also attached to the project.

“I can’t wait to join the cast this fall for Ghostbusters. In fact, I’m sliming myself right now,” Rudd said in a video posted to the Ghostbusters Twitter account.

Of course, there’s still the little matter of whether or not the film is actually Ghostbusters 3. Co-creator Dan Aykroyd keeps talking about his plans for a third film, but Reitman has his own ideas. Either way, Sony is happy to keep the series alive with three alternate timelines — including the 2016 Ghostbusters — and would no doubt serve them all if the money was available. Until the film gets a title, though, we’re going to keep calling it a continuation rather than a sequel.

The film is set for release on July 10th, 2020.
