While Marvel Studios won most of the press attention at the D23 Expo over the weekend, Marvel Entertainment made one key announcement: Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is coming to the Disney Channel.
First announced in February of last year, the animated series based on the comic book series created by Brandon Montclare, Amy Reeder and Natacha Bustos — and partially based upon Devil Dinosaur by Jack Kirby — has found finally found its own in the Disney megaplex, according to Deadline.
The series focuses on 13-year-old Lunella Lafayette and her struggle to navigate school despite possessing the smartest brain on the planet. Her keen intellect allows her to bring a dinosaur through time. The pair team-up to protect Manhattan’s lower-east side from various threats. The TV show’s prompt is slightly different from the comic book itself, which suggests Luna’s attempts to get into an accelerated school program and her Inhuman ability to body-swap with Devil Dinosaur may be left in the pages of the comic. Then again, they are complex concepts to throw out there in a TV show pitch.
It is also possible the series will see Luna slowly learn all of these things as Marvel Senior Vice President of Animation and Family Entertainment Cort Lane told the site, “Lunella doesn’t know she is the smartest person on the planet, but audiences will soon know how very cool Moon Girl is.”
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will debut on the Disney Channel sometime in the future.
