October’s EGX in London has brought footage from the still in development Fairy Tail game, courtesy of Koei-Tecmo and developer Gust. This comes on the heels of confirmation that characters Gajeel Redfox and Juvia Lockser would be joining the existing cast of Lucy, Natsu, Wendy, Gray, and Erza.
Since it’s initial announcement, Koei-Tecmo has consistently rolled out new information on the title. We know now that the game is supposed to begin with the ending of the Tenrou Island saga, where the characters battle against Hades and eventually Acnologia, only to remain frozen for seven years in suspended animation after nearly being destroyed. When they return, the guild has fallen on hard times, and it’s up to the most powerful members in Fairy Tail to bring the guild back to prominence. To do this, players will take on side missions to gradually rank the guild back up to being important and an S-Rank guild in Magnolia again.
At the same time, the game’s story will also be adapting both the Grand Magic Games and the Tartaros arc, two of the last three arcs in the series and some of the story’s most important from a plot perspective. We know the game is going to be roughly 30 hours long through just the main story alone, so players hoping to live in the world of Lucy and the others will get plenty of time. We’ll get to go through iconic moments like Erza vs. Kagura, and beating down Hades himself.
Though they were showing off gameplay here, the game will be playable at Paris Games Week starting October 30th.
Fairy Tail will be available on PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch later in 2020.
