Jouji Shiraishi and Azuru’s light novel, The Journey of Elaina, is receiving an anime adaptation. Yen Press, responsible for the light novel’s English localization, describes the series:
Once upon a time, there was a witch named Elaina, who set off on a journey across the world. Along the way, she would meet all kinds of people, from a country full of witches to a giant in love with his own muscles-but with each meeting, Elaina would become a small part of their story, and her own world would get a little bit bigger.
The director for this series is Toshiyuki Kubooka, known for his work on Berserk: Golden Age Arc and Harukana Receive, but also for his work as an animation director on the Lunar game series. The series composition is Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, who’s done everything from Ben-To and Black Clover to Kampfer and Monster Musume. The character designer is Takeshi Oda (Hitori Bocchi) and the studio producing is C2C (Harukana Receive).
If the opening image of the teaser trailer (shown above) tells us anything, this will hopefully be a breath-taking series in terms of animation quality. Certainly, the fact that they were willing to do a manga to anime transition in the closing seconds is something most studios would find far too much work for a simple teaser. While Kubooka’s reputation isn’t perfect, the Lunar series offers some of the best animation (and designs) from that era of gaming history, and C2C having worked on the beautiful Harukana Receive is a good sign. This series will presumably be a relaxing “slice of life” in a magical world that has plenty of sights for animation fans to drool over.
Journey of Elaina has no current release date.
