Bandai-Namco Introduces Us To The World Of DBZ: Kakarot

by Sage Ashford

With surprisingly few months remaining until DBZ: Kakarot is released worldwide, Bandai-Namco has released a new trailer that talks in depth about the world of their upcoming Action-RPG based on the world of DBZ.
Clocking in at nearly four minutes, this trailer clears up many of the remaining questions about the game. It confirms the game will have plenty of side quests to engage in with more obscure Dragon Ball Z characters like Launch and Android 8 and Nam from the original Dragon Ball series, all while Goku gets stronger and levels up in preparation for some of his most dangerous enemies.
Probably the most hilarious bit in the trailer is that it confirms that this game “is not an open world”, as if that’s something that needed clarifying.  Instead, players will be able to explore sections of the world at a given time while they prepare for the next major enemy.
This game certainly looks like the single-player Dragon Ball Z experience that fans have been looking for, with a small exception: it seems too attached to the existing plotline.  It’s described as the most faithful recreation of the Dragon Ball Z experience ever, but the problem is regardless of how well it’s executed here, the fact for most people is that it has been done several times in the past on every system since the PS2.  Nonetheless, it appears CyberConnect2 has put in a ton of work, and hopefully this game will be a success…and future games can include more what-if scenarios.  And perhaps the popularity of this game can lead to adding some movie villains, which were confirmed not to be in the base game fairly early on.
DBZ: Kakarot is available on January 17th, 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
