Previewing The Squeezable ‘D&D’ Sacred Statue From WizKids

In the history of Dungeons & Dragons, little is as iconic as the sacred statue that appears on the cover of the first edition player’s handbook. This crimson statue holds a brazier of flame with large jewels set in its eyes. In the years since it was published, there have been additions to the lore and now spirits and evil gods are involved, but regardless of what is going on with the statue it’s as iconic as the dragons and the dungeons they inhabit.
The fine folks over at WizKids and Kidrobot are dropping something iconic and cuddly!
Far from the stone statue that entices players to make bold choices, this adorable plush inspired by David Trampier‘s art from the 1978 D&D Players Handbook is ready to guard you while you get a long (or short) rest.
Releasing as a part of the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons celebration, this stoic statue sits 13″ tall and is made with soft premium materials that are hard not to love. The details on this little friend are fantastic as they captured the burning brazier in the best way making it both instantly recognizable and adorable.
The mini-maybe-Moloch-inhabited statue also has its iconic jeweled eyes, but I would be careful to keep those firmly intact as those who tamper with them find themselves crushed to bits … or worse.
There are a lot of really great plushes coming out from WizKids and Kidrobot, but this has got to be one of the best I have seen thus far. It would make the perfect companion to a young or young-at-heart D&D fan. You can pre-order one of your very own at this link.
Until next time, I love that amazing art was so iconic that all these years later they have woven an entire story around it. I am not sure if any of that lore was built in way back then, but watching it grow over the years has been an absolute delight. The fact we live in a time where a company as cool as WizKids can make plushes of something so fundamental to the hobby fills me with a sense of peace and comfort. We survived.
