It’s been a long road for Locke & Key as a television series, but the first landmark is in sight as the program will finally debut early next year.
Netflix announced a February 7th, 2020 start date for the program, which stars Darby Stanchfield as Nina Locke, Jackson Robert Scott as Bode Locke, Connor Jessup as Tyler Locke, Emilia Jones as Kinsey Locke, Bill Heck as Rendell Locke, Laysla De Oliveira as Dodge, Thomas Mitchell Barnet as Sam Lesser, and Griffin Gluck as Gabe. Based on the comic book series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, the series tells the tale of the three Locke siblings as they move to their father’s ancestral home following his mysterious murder. There, they discover a series of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them.
The series has been in development for nearly a decade, with a failed pilot shot for the Fox TV network in 2011. That version was abandoned, but a second pilot for Hulu was commissioned in 2017. After a change of management, Hulu passed on the series, but Netflix picked it up for a full season order — but asked for several parts to be recast.
But that’s all just history now as the program will finally make it to screens everywhere in Februrary.
