The end is nigh for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
TVLine reports the series will return for its seventh and final season on May 27th. And for its final season, the program is moving to Wednesdays at 10pm; an upgrade from the Fridays at 10 it aired in during the fifth and sixth seasons.
In fact, the fifth season seemed to be building up to an ending — its finale was even called “The End” — but ABC gave the program a reprieve and an order for 2 additional 13-episode seasons in May of 2018. Production wrapped on the final season last summer, meaning there will be no interruptions in its final storyline.
As teased at the end of Season 6, the remaining S.H.I.E.L.D. agents found themselves in the 1930s with a Life Model Decoy of Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). Meanwhile, back in the 2020s, the Chronicoms still plan to occupy the Earth. Can the group seed the means of defeating the aliens with their newly discovered time travel technology? Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, and Jeff Ward also return for this most unlikely of victory laps. The again, the show delivered its best episode last summer, so there is still room for growth.
