Review: New Beginnings And Endings Abound In ‘Go Go Power Rangers #32’

Jason, Trini, and Zack didn’t really go to a Peace Conference in Switzerland. Go Go Power Rangers has revealed that they actually went out to space to clean up the mess left in the wake of Lord Drakkon’s devastating attack during Shattered Grid. They did this not as Power Rangers, but as the Omega Rangers. In this final issue of Go Go Power Rangers, we see the moment of that transformation as they leave Earth behind and set off on this mission.

This series has existed to fill in gaps in the storylines of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, so while I’m bummed that it’s coming to a close, it has fulfilled its purpose. This chapter serves as a victory lap of sorts as writers Ryan Parrott and Sina Grace tie up a number of loose ends and bring us to the point where this epic arc began in the pages of MMPR.
More importantly, there are some great character moments as some of the Rangers prepare to depart. This is especially true of Jason as he carries the weight of not just this world, but all of space on his shoulders. You can see how he’s pulled down by this burden and trying to do what’s best, even if that means lying to some of his friends.

In an issue full of great moments, including the appearance of Serpentera and the first morphing of the Omega Rangers, my favorite comes in a quiet conversation between Jason and Tommy. The former officially hands the leadership role over to the latter. There is so much that’s said without words in this scene. Artist Francesco Mortarino, aided with inks by Simona di Gianfelice, showcases a range of emotions as these two begin the next major phase in their journeys as heroes.
Letterer Ed Dukeshire adds to these moments with select bolding of key words. It’s a subtle emphasis that provides additional context to the conversation.

Mortarino delivers perhaps my favorite morphing sequences seen in these comics to date. The uniforms swirl around the characters as they transform, enveloping them like Iron Man’s nanotech armor in Avengers: Infinity War. These sequences pulse with energy as colorist Raul Angulo makes these images come alive with bright, powerful colors. It’s intense and adds so much excitement to the scene.
Go Go Power Rangers #32 is full of new beginnings and endings. Another key part comes with Rocky, Adam, and Aisha officially joining the team. In the TV show, this was shown as an easy transition and everyone became fast friends, but in reality, it’s anything but. These three were thrown into an existing team that already had its own dynamic so they had to figure this out and the original Rangers had to get used to these newcomers.

One interesting interaction that spins out of this is a sitdown with these three and Tommy. They represent the new guard and they share a unique perspective. They see the team from a different point of view than the others, especially Tommy as he’s been thrust into the leadership role.
While we knew where Go Go Power Rangers was going, it did not take anything away from this series or this finale. It has stood on its own with some incredible storytelling, while also amplifying the overall narrative seen between it and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. That’s no easy task, yet these creators handled it with deft precision. I’ll be sad to see this series end, but I’m even more excited for what’s to come with these characters.
