‘Cursed’ Trailer Offers A Glimpse At A Frank Miller Arthurian Legend

by Erik Amaya

Based on the novel written by Tom Wheeler and illustrated by Frank Miller, Netflix’s Cursed sets out to tell the tale of Nimue (Kathrine Langford), a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur (Devon Terrell), a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther. And if this trailer for the series is any indication, the show will have a certain Miller-esque vibe to it.

And we’re going to be honest, the 300-style slo-mos in this trailer leave us a little less enthused about the show. We love the Arthur legend, but it’s tough stuff to sell on screen and we’re not sure it will be served well by whatever Miller-esque imagery the producers included in the show. But as always, we’re willing to be wrong about this show and would happily welcome a good take on the Arthur stories. They are so hard to come by, after all.
Cursed joins the Netflix stable on July 17th.
