Here’s some spiffy home video news.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced Wonder Woman: The Complete Collection will debut on Blu-ray July 28th. The set will contain 59 episodes of the show known as Wonder Woman and The New Adventures of Wonder Woman across its three-season lifespan. The program starred Lynda Carter as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, the Amazon sent to help the World of Man in its hour of need. Lyle Waggoner also appeared as Steve Trevor in the first season and as Steve’s son, also named Steve, after the series jumped from ABC to CBS and changed its World War II setting to the 1970s.
The CBS years also featured a young Debra Winger as a Wonder Girl created specifically for the show and guest stars like Batman ’66‘s Frank Gorshin, Martin Mull, Ron Ely, Leif Garrett, Ed Begley Jr., Eve Plumb, Philip Michael Thomas, Cloris Leachman, Gavin MacLeod, Carolyn Jones, and Robert Reed in stories modulating between big comedy and high camp. Mull and Plumb, for example, appear in an absolutely wild episode about subliminal messages in rock music.
All the episodes have been remastered for the release — and considering the series was shot on film, they should look pretty good. Also included is the pilot film, The New Original Wonder Woman, a handful of commentary tracks with Carter and a number of featurettes about the series and its enduring impact on television. The full list of features is as follows:
- Audio commentary of the pilot movie by Lynda Carter & executive producer Douglas S. Cramer
- Audio commentary by Lynda Carter on episode, “My Teenage Idol is Missing”
- Featurette – Beauty, Brawn and Bulletproof Bracelets: A Wonder Woman Retrospective
- Featurette – Revolutionizing a Classic: From Comic Book to Television
- Featurette – Wonder Woman: The Ultimate Feminist Icon
Wonder Woman: The Complete Collection will retail for $64.99 in the US and hit stores on July 28th.
