Olivia Swann Set To Return To ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ As A Series Regular
by Erik Amaya
The Waverider will hold on to one of its recent stowaways next year.
TVLine reports Season 5 recurring guest star Olivia Swann will appear as a series regular in Legends of Tomorrow‘s sixth season. Throughout Season 5, Swann played a grown up version of Astra, the girl John Constantine (Matt Ryan) damned to Hell during that infamous night in Newcastle. Growing up in Hell under the tutelage of one of the Fates, she swore to get her revenge on Constantine. But a chance conversation with Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) saw her joining the Legends to battle against her former mentor.
And by the time the season ended, Astra’s reason for vengeance disappeared and she seemed right at home on the ship with the other miscreants and ne’er-do-wells. In fact, she seemed so at home, that we hoped she would continue to be part of the show.
“A lot of times with characters, we bring them on, and you just have this sneaking suspicion that there is more to explore,” executive producer Phil Klemmer told the site. “Olivia’s one of those performers. When you saw the sorority episode, that was her first chance to sort of exist out in the world. You get to see that she’s got all these sort of hidden gears.” The producer also suggested she will not be fully rehabilitated even as she tries to live a human life.
The new year will see the team facing off aliens who abducted Sara Lance (Caity Lotz). Well, at least initially. Legends‘s playfulness means the conflict suggested in season premiere may not be the war the Legends fight in the finale. But a year of alien threats would be fresh material for the often funny show.
Legends of Tomorrow is set to return on the CW in the 2021 mid-season.
