Iman Vellani Cast As Disney+’s ‘Ms. Marvel’

by Erik Amaya

A live action Ms. Marvel has been chosen.
Deadline reports newcomer Iman Vellani will play Kamala Khan in the upcoming Disney+ series. Based on the character created by Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson, and Adrian Alphona, the series will see the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of the teen-aged Pakistani-American who happens to be an Avengers superfan and suddenly discovers she has powers all her own.
The series will be headed by Bisha K. Ali and feature directors like Bad Boys For Life‘s Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, and documentary short Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The program will presumably keep Kamala and her family in New Jersey with a cast of supporting characters complimenting any potential Marvel superheroes who may bounce out of Manhattan. Indeed, early rumors indicated the show may make use of a handful of Inhuman characters abandoned when Marvel Television’s Inhumans series proved unsuccessful.
While Vellani will be the first live action face for Kamala, she will not be her first voice. Kathreen Khavari has been playing Ms. Marvel in animated programs like Avengers Assemble and Marvel Rising since 2016 while Sandra Saad lent her voice to the character for the recent Marvel’s Avengers video game.
It is unclear when production will start on Ms. Marvel, it will like be sooner than later with Marvel Studios’ television operations moving into full swing. And with She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) also cast, we expect to learn the faces of Moon Knight and Hawkeye‘s Kate Bishop soon.
