‘Cobra Kai’ Renewed For Season 4; Season 3 To Debut In January

by Erik Amaya

Cobra Kai really never dies.

Netflix announced the series will move forward with a fourth season on Friday, while also setting January 8th as the premiere date for Season 3. And based on the trailer above, the new episodes will resolve a key cliffhanger.

The series re-frames The Karate Kid rivalry of Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny’s (William Zabka) as a battle for the soul of the San Fernando Valley. And with their kids and Johnny’s protege Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) involved in the battle, things are already out of control. Add to that the return of former Cobra Kai sensei John Kreese (Martin Kove), and the imminent arrival of The Karate Kid Part II‘s Chozen (Yuji Okumoto), and this private war will no doubt become something public. We’re just left to wonder when actual Cobra Kai owner Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) or certain other Karate Kid characters may feel the call to the Valley for their part in the ongoing conflict.

Originally designed for YouTube’s attempt to offer premium scripted content, Cobra Kai leaped to Netflix over the summer and became a smash hit almost instantly. As it happens, this show is near to our hearts, so we’re happy to see it flourish on a service with a much wider reach. Nevertheless, we’ll always thank YouTube for saying yes to this particular take on a Karate Kid revival.

Cobra Kai returns January 8th on Netflix.
