Jared Leto Reportedly Set To Return As Joker In The SnyderCut ‘Justice League’

by Erik Amaya

The rumors of the Jared Leto Joker’s demise were somewhat premature.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will once again don his “damaged” tattoo to play the desiccated version of the Clown Prince of Crime in director Zack Snyder‘s version of Justice League. The film is, of course, a reworking of the 2017 film Snyder initially directed, but left before a planned reshoot to deal with a family tragedy. Joss Whedon took his place and the result is a film one can definitely call “compromised” whether or not one is a fan of either director.

In the years since, fans have called upon Warner Bros. — and then AT&T when it bought the studio — to allow Snyder the chance to complete his version of the film. HBO Max took up the challenged giving the director millions to complete effects work and mount another production block. Justice League actors Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher and Amber Heard are said to be participating in the new filming.

It is unclear what role the Joker will play as he was not part of the original Justice League vision. Perhaps he will just be on the yacht with Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello) to further suggest a Legion of Doom. But Leto’s participation in the reshoot is noteworthy as it seemed his time as the DC villain was over. It’s been years since plans for either a solo Joker film or a Joker & Harley project were torpedoed by the development of the out-of-continuity Joker. Margot Robbie went on to star in and produce this year’s Birds of Prey while Leto was reportedly saddened to see someone else win acclaim as Joker.

No matter the reason behind it, it will be interesting to see this take on the character re-emerge in Snyder’s version of the film.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League comes to HBO Max next year.
