The CW Sets January Superhero Debuts
by Erik Amaya
The CW superheroes are poised to make their returns starting in January.
The network finally unveiled details of their “Fall” schedule — or, more precisely, their winter 2021 schedule as the COVID-19 crisis forced the delay of nearly all of their productions. In August, the network decided to postpone all premieres and returns until January to prevent the sort of scheduling mishaps and outright cancellations experienced by other networks. The plan seems to have worked out as they now have plenty of shows banked through the spring.
For our purposes, the season beings on Sunday, January 17th and the return of Batwoman. In some ways, though, it will be a series premiere as new star Javicia Leslie makes her debut as new lead character Ryan Wilder. Later that week, Riverdale returns on January 20th to resolve left-over plots from its truncated fourth season. Afterward, it will jump seven years into the characters futures.
Black Lightning returns on February 8th with what has to be a thoroughly different Freeland. After a season of occupation, we doubt the show will do anything remotely like a COVID analogy, right?
Finally, The Flash returns on February 23rd with Superman & Lois as its lead-out. The new series sees Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) moving back to Smallville to raise their suddenly teen-aged sons. The returning Flash, meanwhile, has leftover issues to resolve behind the mirrors.
Of course, other shows will debut and return, like Nancy Drew and the new Walker, Texas Ranger, but let’s face it, we mainly watch The CW for the superheroes and, sometimes, the soapy silliness of Riverdale.
Batwoman and other shows return to The CW this January.
