After announcing a raft of audiobooks to come out in 2021, Rebellion & 2000 AD have now firmed up some of the vocal talents for the audio versions of a legendary series of characters. including Richard Armitage, Sheila Atim and Joseph Fiennes.
The audiobooks, including Judge Dredd: America and Judge Dredd: The Pit, The Ballad of Halo Jones, Sláine, and Brink will be released March 2021 and are produced by Penguin Random House Studios, with over 40 narrators across five productions, fully immersive soundscapes and original scores.
Judge Dredd: America features the vocal talents of Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale, Shakespeare in Love) as Judge Dredd and Becca Stewart as America Jara.
And unless you’re a complete Dredd novice (hey, we all were once!), you’ll be familiar with America, long considered one of the greatest of Dredd tales, by John Wagner and Colin MacNeil, exploring the ideas of democracy and freedom in the world of Mega-City One’s oppressive police state.
Judge Dredd: The Pit features Paterson Joseph (Neverwhere, Timeless), Patricia Rodriguez, and Fiennes returning as Dredd. This is a classic Dredd procedural with Dredd dropped into a dirty sector house with a mission to clean it up.
The Ballad of Halo Jones features Sheila Atim (The Underground Railroad) as the woman who went out and did everything, a magnificent galaxy-spanning adventure story, a feminist space opera, and an epic written by Alan Moore and drawn by Ian Gibson.
Brink features Richard Armitage (The Hobbit, Captain America) and Nina Sosonya (His Dark Materials, W1A) from the long-running Megazine strip by Dan Abnett and INJ Culbard with humanity living in vast space platforms with the HabSec officers Brinkman and Bridget ‘Bridge’ Curtis seeking to keep control (and failing – miserably at times) in a magnificent sci-fi noir slice of brilliance.
“It’s an incredible feat to be able to turn a visual medium like a comic into audio… 2000 AD has an incredible legacy in British comics, and it’s a thrill to bring these stories to life. Brink is such a wonderful space-noir drama, and I loved stepping into the shoes of Carl Brinkmann.” – Richard Armitage
And finally, Sláine: The Horned God features Colin Morgan (Merlin, Humans) as the Warping Warrior, is an exhilarating mix of Celtic mythology, violence, and heroism fromt the epic series by Pat Mills and Simon Bisley, telling the story of the Horned God’s journey of death and rebirth, as Sláine leads his tribe in the service of the Earth goddess.
