‘The Old Guard’ Actor Marwan Kenzari To Join ‘Black Adam’ Cast

The Old Guard‘s Marwan Kenzari is sticking with comics.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is in talks to join the cast of Black Adam, the long-awaited film debut of the DC Comics antihero starring Dwayne Johnson. Based on various Golden Age characters — and at least one created by Geoff Johns and Dale Eagelsham (based on an earlier idea by Mark Waid and Alex Ross) — the film will finally see the Wizard Shazam’s earlier champion take his rightful place in the DC pantheon. It will also see the big screen debut of the Justice Society of America.

Kenzari’s role is, of course, as-yet unknown. But with JSAer Dr. Fate still not cast, it is one possible role. The film will also feature Quintessa Swindell, Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, and Sarah Shahi.

With a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani for director Jaume Collet-Serra, the film will reportedly begin production in April — which we’ll believe when it happens. For over ten years, Johnson has said the film will be his next project with production set to being “next Spring” or “next summer” for nearly as long. The most recent delay came courtesy of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although Johnson contracted the virus over the summer, it seems the pandemic’s worldwide effect on film production and release dates during that time are more directly to blame. At one time, the project had a release date but it is currently off Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line’s schedule.
