Clap For ‘Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.” Trailer

by Erik Amaya

While M.O.D.O.K. (Patton Oswalt) himself may not invite you to clap for this trailer Hulu released on Thursday, the series it promotes — Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. — certainly asks you to. Honestly, M.O.D.O.K. could use the ego boost.

Although the trailer still sees the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing at the height of his powers, the series will bring the villain down to our world of everyday conflicts and job pressures. The reference his accountant makes to being bankrupt? It leads to the sale of AIM and M.O.D.O.K. becoming an employee of Austin Van Der Sleet (Beck Bennett) and a rival, once again, to Monica Rappaccini (Wendi McLendon-Covey).

When he’s not facing an AIM he no longer controls, his home life in New Jersey still leaves him stressed out. His wife, Jodie (Aimee Garcia), starts her own business and is quite successful. Meanwhile, their children represent the spectrum of Jersey kids — daughter Melissa or “M.E.L.I.S.S.A.” (Melissa Fumero) is the queen bee of her high school and a would-be supervillain while test tube son Lou (Ben Schwartz) is just a beacon of positivity.

The program has been in the works for sometime and one of the few animated projects to survive Marvel Television’s incorporation into Marvel Studios. Hopefully, that means Oswalt will voice M.O.D.O.K. should he ever make a proper MCU appearance.

Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. debuts May 21st on Hulu.
