‘Superman & Lois’ Gets An Early Season 2 Renewal

by Erik Amaya

While it did seem inevitable, The CW announced Tuesday that Superman & Lois will return for the 2021-2022 broadcast season.

The program, which airs its second episode tonight, sees Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) as a married couple facing a whole new challenge: raising teenage sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alex Garfin). It also places them back in Smallville after The Daily Planet “downsizes” Clark’s job at the paper. Although currently focused on his family, the presence of rich industrialist Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner) and a mysterious Stranger (Wolé Parks) with ties to Kal-El means Superman will still be on call even as he helps one of his boys with their newly found superpowers.

In a statement, CW President Mark Pedowitz said, “The phenomenal multiplatform debut of Superman & Lois, which delivered for us in a big way on both a linear and streaming basis, is a testament to the creativity, hard work and dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera, especially in this challenging environment.”

The program joins fellow Arrowverse shows The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman as part of the next television season. Supergirl and Black Lightning previously announced their upcoming conclusions. Additionally, programs based on DC Comics’s Naomi and Black Lightning‘s Painkiller are also in development. But with Superman & Lois continuing, it seems Pedowitz’s plan for a next generation of Arrowverse shows is still on track.
