Review: Kit Undertakes The Eagle’s Guard Trials In ‘Scout’s Honor’ #3

After the death of her father in chapter two, Kit decided to take on the Eagle’s Guard trials. It’s the only way she’ll get access to the information stored on Webelo’s hard drive. She needs to know for certain that the video she saw briefly is, in fact, evidence that the Ranger Scouts offed their founder, Jefferson Hancock.

Standing in her way is best friend/bitter rival Dez, who’s now not only fighting for his father’s approval, but also to preserve his honor.

David Pepose is putting Kit through the ringer. She can’t catch a break. Things are happening so quickly that she barely has time to process. Every person that Kit has ever been able to trust has been stripped away, one way or another.

Mom, dead. Dad, dead. Scoutmaster, probably (definitely) part of the conspiracy. Dez? Well, that’s a whole other mess, isn’t it? Dez laid himself bare, took a shot, kissed his best friend. Got rejected, but not for the reasons he believes. 

Now, with no emotional anchor, Kit is still fighting for all the ideals that she once believed the Ranger Scouts stood for, and she’s up against forces she can’t even begin to understand. 

Scout’s Honor #3 is an action-filled chapter. There’s pure grit in Luca Casalanguida’s linework that telegraphs the physical and emotional toll it takes on Kit, Dez, and the rest of the Eagle’s Guard candidates. This chapter also introduces ‘suicide hornets,’ which are every bit as horrifying as they sound.

Each chapter of Scout’s Honor dials up the tension from the previous. The turn at the end of this one completely turns the thing inside out. Again. Three chapters in, I’m fully invested in this thing for as long as it runs. Three more chapters? Seventeen? A Hundred? I’m in. Let’s do this.
