The CW’s ‘Naomi’ Pilot Casts Kaci Walfall In Lead Role
by Erik Amaya
The CW’s Naomi pilot has its lead.
Variety reports Kaci Walfall will star in the lead role. Based on the DC Comics character created by Brian Micheal Bendis, David F. Walker and Jamal Campbell, the project comes from filmmaker Ava DuVernay and former Arrow writer Jill Blankenship. The proposed series will follow “a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.” Sounds like it will be rather faithful to the source material and, perhaps, introduce the new DC Multiverse to the heroes of The CW.
Additionally, the site reports the series will also feature Alexander Wraith as tattoo parlor owner Dee; Cranston Johnson as Zumbado, a used car salesman Naomi tries to avoid; and Camila Moreno as Lourdes, a potential Season 1 love interest. If the program goes to series, all three actors will join Walfall as series regulars.
The program is one of two Arrowverse shows in development. The other, Painkiller will debut its premise in the April 12th episode of Black Lightning. A third concept centering on the Future State Wonder Woman was recently abandoned.
DuVernay, meanwhile, has a full plate of DC Entertainment content coming as an executive producer of HBO Max’s DMZ adaptation and the director of the New Gods film.
