Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Run On ‘Captain America’ Concludes In June

by James Ferguson

Marvel continues the 80th anniversary celebration of Captain America with a bang. The publisher has announced the conclusion of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ epic run on Captain America will drop in June with issue #30. Featuring artwork by Leonard Kirk, this chapter serves as the finale to the “All Die Young” arc and prepares for the next era of the Star-Spangled Avenger.

Coates’ run has been thought-provoking and absolutely riveting, taking a look at what it means to be Captain America in today’s world. It’s also introduced new elements to the series like the Daughters of Liberty and the Power Elite.

“After a stellar two and a half year run, Ta-Nehisi is bringing his tenure on Captain America to a close, with an epic finale to the story that he’s been building all throughout his time on the title,” Executive Editor Tom Brevoort said. “And Leonard Kirk is providing some epic artwork—it’s going to be a climax to remember!”

With this run ending, I have to wonder if Marvel will reboot the series for a new #1 or continue it. I guess we’ll find out soon. Captain America #30 features a main cover by Alex Ross. It’s set for release on June 16th, 2021.
