‘Captain America’ 4 On The Way From ‘Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Writer Malcolm Spellman

by Erik Amaya

Sam Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) path continues on from Disney+ back to the feature films.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman will write a fourth Captain America film with fellow series writer Dalan Musson. Details are, of course, non-existent, but will presumably continue Sam’s journey. The site also suggests it may pick up with an alternate Steve Rogers or one of the other characters who adopted the Captain America title across the character’s 80+ years in comics.

Of course, if you’ve seen this week’s episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, you may have a pretty good guess where Captain America 4 might go.

Beyond the writers, though, no other creative talent is attached. Even Mackie and Sebastian Stan‘s presence is unconfirmed. But then, don’t most Marvel Studios projects start that way?

In terms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe calendar, Captain America 4 may represent the first of the 2025 releases and, presumably, a continuation of wherever Phase 5 is at that point. To put things in perspective, Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Blade (Mahershala Ali) and the Fantastic Four will have made their debuts by then. Will Cap be able to coordinate these people into a new Avengers team? Will he be facing the fallout from Secret Invasion?

And, come to think of it, will Mackie appear in Secret Invasion? It would be weird for that series not to feature Captain America.

The question, though, reflects how rapidly the Marvel world changes now and what it means for a fourth Captain America film to come out in four years time.
