The CW Sets August Returns For ‘Supergirl,’ ‘Stargirl,’ And ‘Riverdale’

The CW is pushing the very definition of a broadcast season with its Summer schedule.

As announced on Thursday, the network is drawing up a summer season with returning mid-season shows like In The Dark and Coroner set for July. But of particular interest to our CW viewing habits, Supergirl, Stargirl, and Riverdale have all been set for August returns. According to an email from the network, Stargirl beings its second season on August 10th while Riverdale returns the following night, August 11th, to continue its fifth season. Supergirl, meanwhile, will begin airing its final thirteen episodes on August 24th. In each case, the programs will run into September and butt up against the CW’s usual Fall season in October.

The change in scheduling, made for practical reasons regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, could go on to redefine what the network considers mid-season. And if it means program like Stargirl can run successfully in the late summer, we’d be happy for it to continue as it gives other superhero shows time to breathe on the schedule. Well, provided The CW picks up Naomi and Painkiller.

In the meantime, Batwoman, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow will continue to air their seasons with few, if any, interruptions. Superman & Lois returns May 18th as Supergirl goes into hiatus until August.
