The Experience To Celebrate Asian American And Pacific Islander Heritage Month With Upcoming Shows
by Erik Amaya
The Comic Book Shopping Experience — aka The Experience — will celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with a special weekend of shows highlighting AAPI contributions to the comic book medium and industry. Panels will be moderated by writer Amy Chu and podcaster (among other things) Ming Chen on May 29th and 30th.
“With anti-Asian sentiment and hate crimes on the rise in this country, I think it’s important to remind everyone, we have been drawing and writing your favorite comics since the ’40s” Chu said in a statement. “It’s well past time to recognize and celebrate the achievements of Asian Pacific Americans in the comics industry, with such longtime contributors to the culture including Fred Kida, Rudy Nebres, Whilce Portacio, Stan Sakai, Gene Yang and of course Jim Lee, now we have a whole new and much larger generation of comics talent and pros.”
Guests will include the legendary Larry Hama, letterer Janice Chiang, artist Jae Lee, artist Jerry Ma, Morning Glories co-creator Joe Eisma, artist Joyce Chin, artist Peter Nguyen, and illustrator Vishavjit Singh. Here’s the schedule of panels revealed so far:
Saturday
Joe Eisma 2pm ET
Jae Lee 3pm ET
Sunday
Joyce Chin 1pm ET
Janice Chiang 2pm ET
Vishavjit Singh 3pm ET
Larry Hama: 4pm ET
