Image Comics is known for delivering thrilling High Concept stories. With its many heavy-hitters like The Walking Dead, East of West, and Saga reaching conclusions it was only a matter of time before a new epic comic series came along. Ultramega burst into comic stores with a super-sized first issue and delivered an onslaught of unrestrained imagination.
The iconography of Japanese “Tokusatsu” serves as a Trojan Horse smuggling cosmic body horror. The story has many twists and turns married to emotional highs and lows. You’ll never know if the needle is going to swing from comedy or tragedy. The powerhouse combo of James Harren and Dave Stewart delivered an exciting climax to the first arc while also leaving its readers begging for more.
Ultramega has become my new favorite comic series and a poster-child for comic heroes of the next decade.
