With Peacemaker proving a rousing success, James Gunn‘s time with the DC Multiverse may be, well, extended.
Deadline reports The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy director has “approached” HBO Max with a second spinoff from his DC Films debut. It is unclear which of the surviving characters may lead the new project, but with the John Cena-led series popping up as the most watched streaming show in the world, it is clear HBO Max wants to be in business with Gunn.
Feel free to speculate, of course, on which The Suicide Squad character would make a great lead. Cena’s Peacemaker proves even the flimsiest of characters in the DC Comics library can prove irresistible with the right talent. But if Gunn is looking to be tonally different from Peacemaker, don’t rush to assume Polka Dot Man (David Dastmalchian) is the next HBO Max star. Indeed, Gunn himself told Deadline “it won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker, but it will be in the same universe.”
Meanwhile, Gunn said a second season of Peacemaker just needs to “cross some Ts and dot some Is.”
