New From Emily Hampshire and Z2 Comics, The Whimsical New Graphic Novel, ‘Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch’

More new comic announcements from Z2 Comics now, with the music and media specialist joining with the breakout star of Schitt’s Creek, Emily Hampshire, to bring us a tale of an underdog enchantress’ magical misadventures in search of her identity in Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch.

The new book ‘blends millennial homebody ennui with wand-waving delight’ with the story of Amelia, a middling witch suffering the trials and tribulations of being part of L.A.’s Aierwood family – the witch family at the top of the witchy tree – we’re talking the Kardashians of the witch world here. Amelia’s problem is that she’d much rather be at home eating pop-tarts and listening to her favourite true-crime podcast than out there representing the premier witching family in the USA.

She’s the ultimate late-bloomer, having to watch all her way more talented sisters go off and represent the family in the witchy and celebrity world, her powers tend to be used for more mundane things – and even then, they often don’t work out the way Amelia plans, hence the terminally unfashionable witch’s hat that’s permanently stuck to her head, or her adopted brother Spaghetti, who she accidentally turned into a Yeti.

Oh, poor Amelia, the black sheep of this wizarding family, she finds herself on the outs from the family’s latest bid for superstardom – reality TV!

Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch sounds rather a delight, an underdog tale with magic all around. Spells and spooks and witchy hi-jinks are in store.

Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch is the debut comics work by Emily Hampshire, better known for her acting work on Schitt’s Creek, 12 Monkeys, and Chapelwaite. Emily joins co-writer Eliot Rahal and artists Kristen Gudsnuk and Ames Liu.
