Veronica Deals With The Fallout Of Her Hit On Next Week’s ‘Riverdale’

by Rachel Bellwoar

Without having seen the midseason premiere of Riverdale, next week’s trailer could be a little scary. It certainly seems to suggest that Archie (KJ Apa) will be picked up by the Trash Bag Killer, but what it leaves out is he’s indestructible now, so serial killers aren’t quite the threat they used to be (at least not for him).

You read that right. Having brought the show’s Rivervale chapter to a close last year, Riverdale is finally dealing with the fallout of Hiram’s bomb. Archie is indestructible. Betty (Lili Reinhart) can detect threats. Bingo is an amazing healer. Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is becoming deaf, which isn’t exactly the positive effect his friends are having, but maybe has something to do with him being the reason the parallel universes were able to separate in the first place.

None of these superpowers are exactly like the ones Archie’s Superteens have in the comics, but if this new arc could lead to a special, Superteens episode where Archie becomes Pureheart the Powerful, it would be worth it.

Some other thoughts on this week’s episode:

  • After all the fuss over Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Abigail’s curse, Cheryl is the one who takes action on her own to break the curse this week. Riverdale doesn’t deserve Cheryl. She may have started out as the antagonist, but Riverdale’s only tried to use her since she shut herself away in Thornhill.
  • It’s hard to believe Hiram (Mark Consuelos) is really dead, given that his death took place offscreen. Veronica (Camila Mendes) seems to believe it, but could that be the guilt talking, for placing a hit on her father?

Riverdale air Sundays on The CW.
