Viola Davis To Star As Amanda Waller In ‘Peacemaker’ Spinoff On HBO Max

by Erik Amaya

As always, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) comes out on top.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Davis is in talks to reprise her role as the morally flexible DC Comics government agent in an untitled Peacemaker spinoff for HBO Max. Peacemaker writer and often-times director James Gunn will serve as an executive producer with Watchmen‘s Christal Henry taking over as the chief writer and executive producer. Davis and Peter Safran will also serve as EPs on the program.

The program will reportedly carry on from the Peacemaker finale, which saw Waller’s daughter, Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) reveal the existence of Task Force X to the world. But anyone who knows Waller from DC Comics, her various animated appearances, or even Davis’s take on her in Suicide Squad, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker can tell you a little bad PR will only motivated her to change tactics and branding.

So … maybe the show will be called Checkmate in honor of her comic book counterpart’s other clandestine organization?

As always, precise details are scarce as both HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television (the overall Warner division behind all DC-branded TV shows), but we imagine careful, Waller-like leaks will offer more information soon.
