‘Lady Hel’ Returns In Her Own Title With Writer Erik Burnham

by Erik Amaya

Lady Hel is planning a chaotic return the August.

Dynamite Entertainment announced on Thursday that the character will star in her own title from writer Erik Burnham and artist Zhengis Tasbolatov. Lady Hel, previously seen tussling with Purgatori in Vampirella vs. Purgatori, now finds her authority and powers stripped from her. But will that keep a personification of death down? Of course not, so she plots a return to her throne. Meanwhile, Lady Demon has designs of her own in what the company calls a “tale of horrific gods and monsters.”

“I was intrigued by Lady Hel during the little bit I got to use her in the Red Sonja: Age of Chaos mini,” Burnham said in a statement. “She seemed like a character that would fit well into a story with tropes from across mythology, which is one of the kinds of stories I love to tell … Turns out that that was exactly the case, and between that and the place her character was left after the Vampirella vs. Purgatori miniseries, I got to have a lot of fun playing with different kinds of underworld lore. It’s been a blast!”

Supporting the first issue of her debut solo outting are covers from the likes of Lucio Parrillo, Daniel Maine, Mike Mahle, and Geebo Vigonte. Cosplayer Rachel Hollon will also provide a photo cover.

Lady Hel #1 is set for release in August.
