Although director George Miller is committed to the wasteland of his Mad Max series, he found some time during the development of Furiosa to make a completely different film. And if the recently released trailer for Three Thousand Years of Longing (above) is any indication, we’ll be better for his excursion into another mad world.
Tilda Swinton stars as a seemingly timid woman whose life changes utterly when she releases a Djinn (Idris Elba) from a long slumber. As is the custom, he will use his powers to grant her a handful of wishes, but it seems from the glimpses we see of other times, she will quickly become wary of his boon. As she says herself, every story about wishes coming true is a cautionary tale. Is this one as well or will Miller’s more gentle side (he also made the Babe and Happy Feet movies) come to the fore?
Three Thousand Years of Longing is due out this summer.
