SDCC 2022: Celebrating The Characters And Creators Who Are Women Of Marvel

During their panel at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), the Women of Marvel podcast seemed a little different. That’s because they received a new logo and as moderator Angélique Roché mentioned, a brand-new website. Despite the new look, they did what they always do and that is amplify the different women, whether its characters, creators, or others, within the entertainment company. Though much of the talk was focused on the panelists, there was still a fair amount of news and promotion revealed.

There are a several books geared for the middle school/young adult (YA) crowd. Spider-Man’s Social Dilemma, which is written by Preeti Chhibber, releases this week on July 26th and is a prose novel. The Avengers Assembly line, which is a reimagining of Miles Morales, Kamala Khan, and Doreen Green who attend an after-school program to learn to be heroes. In the third installment, X-change Students 101, they interact with the X-Men. The illustrated chapter book from Chhibber and James Lancett goes on sale September 6.

Karama Horne’s Protectors of Wakanda is an in-world guide and handbook on how to become a Dora Milaje.

Mackenzi Lee has two books arriving on February 7th, 2023. There is the softcover version of Gamora and Nebula: Sisters in Arms. The other is the new YA novel The Winter Soldier: Cold Front. It’s a Bucky origin story that takes place while he is becoming the Winter Soldier and his handlers can’t completely wipe his memory yet. The glimpses into his old life begin to have an effect on him.

Moon Girl looks to be a big part of Marvel’s plans moving forward. She is featuring in an animated series and will star in two upcoming comic series. Avengers and Moon Girl, by Mohale Mashigo and Diogenes Neve, sees Lunella leave the comforts of the Lower East Side to search for missing friend, Devil Dinosaur. After enlisting Miles Morales’ help and being unsuccessful, she turns to the superhero team. The first issue goes on sale in August. The pair will eventually be reunited since a new Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 begins in this December with the creative team of writer Jordan Ifueko and artist Alba Glez.

Rebecca Roanhorse will have a story in the upcoming Crypt of Shadows one-shot with artist Karen S. Darboe. It will involve Moon Knight and Werewolf by Midnight.

Finally, as reported earlier, the second season of the Infinity comic, It’s Jeff, will return this September for a second season.
