Advance Review: ‘Mega Centurions: Mega No More’ #2 Dips Quality

Artist Dexter Wee does a mostly great job with the interiors. However, Wee uses an unnecessary and jarring dutch angle on the last page. Also some of the faces sometimes go a tiny bit off-model. On the plus side, Wee uses a confident and somewhat thin line for both the cover and interior art. Though the thinness of line work is more obvious on the cover than the interiors. Wee also does a nice job expressing the blue centurion’s characterization with the cover’s design. The cover also expertly displays the dichotomy between super-heroics and the business world.

Letterer Cristian Docolomansky does a good job with bolding the text. Docolomansky also does a great job when it comes to making the various identifying boxes pop. Yet, the placement of the boxes is not always in the most apt position. For example two of the boxes are directly on the characters instead of empty parts of the background. Not to mention that the sizing, and at least one case of spacing, isn’t optimal. Nevertheless, the majority of the execution is good enough to not be jarring.

Colorist Kote Carvajal uses a color palette that has a wide range. Another plus is that the palette often interacts with the coloring of the text and sound effects. Carvajal’s only real failing is in coloring what is apparently blood. Although if one gives the benefit of the doubt than Carvajal does a relatively decent at showing how blood is hard to see in shadow. Thus, one could argue that Carvajal simply goes to real world in terms of the workings of lights and shadows for that moment.

Writer Jon Parrish provides a strong script with a great balance of light and dark moments. The dialogue essentially boiling down to simply what is necessary for characterization and/or plot progression.
