Review: Battle Fatigue Begins To Loom For Readers And Heroes In ‘Avengers Forever’ #13

Summary
The Goddesses of Thunder enter the arena, but so do other dangers. In a seemingly never-ending battle for the fate of the multiverse, there are a good few well placed surprises, but the battle fatigue is beginning to show both on the page and for the reader in ‘Avengers Forever’ #13.

8/10The war rages on in Avengers Forever #13 with a trio of thunder goddesses entering the fray as well as an array of Doctor Dooms. Well, if there are infinite Mephistos, then it make perfect sense there are infinite Victor Von Dooms too. Where will it all end? After all, this could go on forever. Of maybe not, as the true identity of Avenger Prime is finally revealed. And, underneath the helmet stands an appropriate familiar figure at that.
Like the previous issue, this newest instalment in writer Jason Aaron’s gargantuan endgame is dominated by bloody battle and large scale set pieces, all populated by a myriad of multiversal characters on both sides. Depicted once again with great skill by Aaron Kuder, who pours immense levels of details into each figure and each environment. Frank Martin’s colours immerse much of the action in deceptively darker tones, reflective of the darker tone of the story and setting. But, still at times, there are bursts of light, usually when Old Man Phoenix makes his presence felt.
But, while Kuder is still enjoying his time on this epic saga, the fighting is beginning to put a strain on this reader. Yes, the inclusion of big narrative moments like the gathering Dooms and final page reveal keep the reader invested, but I’m not sure how much more fighting I can take. Hopefully, with the return of the Prime Avenger the whole saga will finally be given the grand climax it deserves. And soon.
